Stage mode countdown feature for auto-stopping playback by measures or time

The countdown timer lets you set a duration for playback to automatically stop. Ideal for controlling practice duration or timing specific sections during performance.

Access

In Stage mode control bar, tap the Countdown button to open the settings panel.

Timer Types

By Measures

Counts down by number of measures, ideal for:

  • Practicing fixed-length phrases
  • Matching sheet music structure
  • Precise control over practice content

Range: 1 - 999 measures

By Time

Counts down by minutes, ideal for:

  • Setting daily practice duration
  • Time-boxed practice sessions
  • Free improvisation practice

Range: 1 - 60 minutes

Display format: mm:ss (e.g., 05:30 means 5 min 30 sec)

Usage

Starting Countdown

  1. Tap the countdown button to open settings panel
  2. Select timer type (Measures/Time)
  3. Set the value using slider or number input
  4. Tap Start Countdown button

After the panel closes, the control bar button shows:

  • Green border indicating countdown is active
  • Real-time remaining value

Viewing Remaining Time

When countdown is running, the control bar button displays:

Canceling Countdown

Tap the countdown button again and click Cancel Countdown in the panel.

Countdown also deactivates automatically when playback stops (e.g., manual stop).

Behavior Details

Countdown and Section Switching

  • Countdown continues when switching sections, no reset
  • Countdown persists during sequential auto-advance
  • Works normally in single loop mode

Countdown End

When countdown reaches zero:

  1. Playback stops automatically
  2. Current section selection is cleared
  3. Countdown button returns to normal style
  4. Countdown settings are cleared

Pause and Resume

Countdown only decrements during playback:

  • Playing: countdown decreases
  • Paused: countdown paused
  • Stopped: countdown resets

Use Cases

Case 1: 32-bar Improvisation Practice

  1. Enter Stage mode
  2. Set countdown to 32 measures
  3. Start and practice improvisation
  4. Auto-stops after 32 measures for recording review

Case 2: Daily 30-minute Warm-up

  1. Prepare a practice with multiple warm-up sections
  2. Enter Stage mode, enable sequential playback
  3. Set countdown to 30 minutes
  4. Start practicing, auto-stops when time is up

Case 3: Controlled Single-section Practice

  1. Select a technical challenge section
  2. Set single loop mode
  3. Set countdown to 8 measures
  4. Practice stops every 8 measures for analysis

Notes

  • Countdown settings are cleared when exiting Stage mode
  • Measure mode requires the current section to have a defined measure count
  • Time mode may be inaccurate if device sleeps (Stage mode prevents sleep)
