Practice Feature Overview
Core capabilities, use cases, and usage of FlowBeats practice features
Last updated: 2026-03-21
The Practice feature helps you combine multiple rhythm sections into a complete practice routine, ideal for instrument rehearsal, performance preparation, and daily training.
What Problem Does This Solve
- Structured Practice: Break down practice into sections, master difficult parts step by step
- Tempo Progression: Set independent BPM for each section to practice from slow to fast
- Performance Prep: Arrange setlist order in advance, switch quickly in Stage Mode
- Muscle Memory: Build familiarity by repeating section sequences
Core Concepts
Practice
A practice contains multiple sections arranged in order. Each practice has:
- Name: An identifiable practice title
- Section List: Rhythm configurations to play in sequence
Section
A section is the basic unit of a practice. Each section contains:
- Rhythm Preset: References a saved rhythm preset (includes sequencer pattern, time signature, subdivision, etc.)
- BPM: Playback tempo for this section (can override preset's default BPM)
- Measure Count: Number of measures this section loops

Section Configuration
BPM Setting
Each section can have an independent BPM (range: 10-300). This allows you to:
- Use different tempos within the same practice
- Slow down difficult sections for focused practice
- Simulate real performance tempo changes
Measure Count Setting
Measure count determines playback duration in Stage Mode:
- Loop Mode: Section loops indefinitely until manually switched
- Sequential Mode: Section advances to the next after playing the set number of measures
Range: 1-64 measures
Relation to Other Modules
- Rhythm: Sections in a practice reference rhythm presets, which provide rhythm patterns and sound kit configuration
- Stage Mode: Practices can enter Stage Mode for live performance or full routine rehearsal
- Harmony: Rhythm presets can be combined with chord progressions (Harmony feature)
Notes
- Practice names cannot exceed 20 characters
- Each section must reference a rhythm preset
- Presets referenced by practices cannot be deleted; modify the practice first
- Free version has practice quantity limits; subscribe for unlimited practices
